The Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department has officially announced the winter vacation schedule for all Government and recognized Private Schools up to Higher Secondary level across the Kashmir Division and the winter zone(s) of the Jammu Division. The announcement has been made through Government Order No. 665–JK (Edu) of 2025, issued on 25 November 2025.
According to the order, winter vacations will be observed in a phased manner, beginning with pre-primary classes and extending to senior secondary levels over the month of December. The step has been taken in view of the harsh winter conditions that severely affect the Kashmir region every year.

The order clearly outlines that teaching faculty must remain available for any academic requirements during the vacation period. Schools may need to conduct limited academic work, administrative tasks, or online support if required.
Staff Attendance and Reopening Preparations
The government has directed that all teaching staff should report back to their respective schools on 20 February 2026. This advance reporting is intended to allow sufficient time for planning the reopening of schools, arranging classrooms, and ensuring readiness for the new academic phase after the long winter break.
Furthermore, the order warns that any failure by Heads of Institutions or teaching staff to follow the schedule will lead to strict action as per the established rules. Schools are therefore required to strictly adhere to the timelines and instructions laid out by the department.
